Leadership group development and impact

From Geelong, Ballarat and Melbourne, we deliver leadership, culture and change support across Australia

Leadership is a skillset that can be learned and enhanced, irrespective of title, experience or effect. Individually and collectively, your leaders need demonstrable consistency (of behaviour and message), ensuring their remit of leadership is fulfilled.

Our team support your leaders to:

  • Diagnose beliefs and behaviours reducing positive leadership impact
  • Redesign and implement effective leadership norms
  • Develop skills to improve influence and return on investment
  • Introduce / enhance strategic intent and focus
  • Align individuals and teams to business goals through effective messaging

A few key terms, tools and techniques we apply:

The balcony and the dance floor

The balcony and the dance floor is a useful leadership metaphor for balancing perspective with action. The dance floor reflects the immediacy of execution – making decisions, solving problems and responding in real time. The balcony provides the broader vantage point, enabling leaders to identify patterns, assess dynamics and maintain strategic focus.

Many leaders default to the dance floor because action is visible, immediate and tangible. However, sustained leadership effectiveness depends on spending more time on the balcony – scanning for risk, recognising emerging opportunities and ensuring effort remains aligned to purpose. Strong leaders know when to engage directly and when to step back to lead the wider system with clarity and intent.

Leadership diagnostics

Behavioural diagnostics provide leadership teams with a clear view of the patterns, habits and dynamics shaping their collective performance. They can give a data-driven perspective to where the group prefer to expend their energy and effort (balcony or dance floor).

By identifying how leaders think, respond and interact under pressure, diagnostics create a practical evidence base for more targeted development.

We utilise a range of behavioural diagnostics to help leadership teams build greater self-awareness, improve alignment and strengthen the way they make decisions, communicate and lead together. This supports more focused development conversations and enables teams to shift from individual capability building to sustained collective leadership effectiveness.

Accountability

One of the more important, and arguably one of the more misunderstood conditions of leadership, is accountability. Whilst the term is regularly used, the real-time condition and actions are not explicitly created.

Developing a keen understanding within your group, then structuring it in such a way to ensure accountability to paramount.

Emotional intelligence (EI)

Author Daniel Goleman described emotional intelligence as the determining factor of excellence in the domain of leadership. All leadership activities will be affected by individual and collective emotional intelligence. The bravest leadership teams look within to ascertain EI strengths and weaknesses and opportunities for growth.
