Our story (and why we’ve lasted)

How it started

Leadership At Work (LAW) began in 1989, founded by Robert J Re. Working in HR in the manufacturing sector, Robert saw something missing: effective leadership development that was practical, relevant, and built for the realities of the factory floor. LAW was created to give manufacturing leaders the kind of support and development opportunities they deserved.

How we’ve evolved

Robert was joined by Belinda Fyffe in 2010, then Brad Clarke in 2011. Emily Re, Robert’s daughter, signed on in 2021 after a successful career in the primary education sector.

Since 2011 we have expanded our client base to encompass health, financial services, education, construction and infrastructure, and transport and logistics to name a few.

As we grow, we are actively inviting highly experienced, like-minded practitioners into our community. Our offering and value to you will continue to widen and deepen.

We apply contemporary adult learning principles, combining a blend of formative and emerging evidence-based approaches and techniques. We expect “stickability” and ongoing positive impact.

What hasn’t changed

The principles we’ve kept true to and continue to measure on a regular basis:

  • We continue to apply the rule “what is true, not what is new” under the premise that sound practice is sound practice, irrespective of its age.
  • Our values. Daily we discuss, demonstrate and hold ourselves accountable to them. It’s what has kept us going.

Our values in action

Values are more than words on a poster; they are foundations for a set of consistent, observable behaviours and standards. When you talk to us, you will hear and see our values shine through.
